PHOENIXVILLE, PA — Phoenixville Hospital’s Chief of Orthopedic Surgery, Michael Messina MD, has been named an “Emerging Leader: provider organization leaders under 40” by Becker’s Hospital Review. This accolade recognizes young healthcare leaders who are making significant strides in innovation and development within their organizations.
Dr. Messina’s recognition is a testament to his dedication to enhancing the quality of healthcare and his commitment to the well-being of patients. According to Becker’s Hospital Review, the honorees on this list are not only ensuring their organizations’ survival but also driving them to thrive.
Rich Newell, President and CEO of Phoenixville Hospital and Pottstown Hospital, extended his congratulations to Dr. Messina on behalf of the Tower Health team. He expressed gratitude for Dr. Messina’s contributions to the hospital, community, and team members, saying, “Dr. Messina quickly became a well-respected member of the medical staff at Phoenixville Hospital and a leader among his colleagues.”
Dr. Messina joined Phoenixville Hospital in 2016 and assumed his current role as Chief of Orthopedic Surgery in 2020. Later this year, he will take on the responsibility of Medical Staff President during the annual Medical Staff meeting this Spring.
A graduate of Drexel University College of Medicine, Dr. Messina completed his orthopedic surgery residency training at the University of Colorado. He also holds highly specialized fellowship training from Harvard University in comprehensive management of shoulder pathology, encompassing sports-related injuries to advanced arthritis requiring reconstructive joint replacement surgery.
Richard McLaughlin, MD, Chief Medical Officer of Phoenixville Hospital and Pottstown Hospital, praised Dr. Messina’s unique perspective and energy. He commented, “It has been wonderful to see him develop into a leader among the medical staff and look forward to his tenure as president of the medical staff in the coming year.”
Dr. Messina recently welcomed Dr. Frank Cucé, a board-certified orthopedic surgeon with over two decades of experience, to his practice. Dr. Cucé specializes in lower extremity surgery, including knee and hip replacements.
