KENNETT SQUARE, PA — Chatham Financial has acquired Verumex (VmX), a global data platform renowned for addressing complex challenges in the commercial real estate (CRE) industry. This strategic acquisition aims to improve data quality and decision-making efficiency for CRE investors and asset managers.
Founded in 2018 by Nick Laird, Paul Hiatt, and Ravi Vijayaraghavan, VmX was developed to tackle the pervasive issues of delayed, incomplete, and inaccurate data in scaled CRE portfolios. The platform integrates a proprietary data system and expert services to aggregate, standardize, and clean data, providing reliable insights and decisions for CRE stakeholders.
Nick Laird, CEO and co-founder of VmX, emphasized the industry’s struggles, stating, “The lack of access to real-time data combined with poor data quality leads to ineffective analysis and significant wasted time for CRE asset and investment managers. Other solutions have come up short because they lack VmX’s structured tech platform and sophisticated validation rules engine paired with knowledgeable domain experts onboarding and validating the data.”
By integrating VmX’s technology and services with Chatham’s extensive debt and derivatives advisory and software, the acquisition creates a comprehensive resource for managing CRE assets and liabilities. Chatham’s platform handles over $4 billion notional hedged per day and provides over 250,000 daily derivative valuations, positioning it as a leader in capital markets solutions.
Matt Henry, CEO of Chatham Financial, highlighted the acquisition’s alignment with Chatham’s mission, saying, “Chatham’s CRE clients partner with us knowing we will empower their capital markets decisions and strategies with complete expertise and quality across advisory, data, and software solutions. We’re known for having best-in-class talent to serve our clients, and the addition of the VmX team builds on that reputation.”
John Klopp, Managing Director and Head of Global Real Assets for Morgan Stanley, a firm that backed VmX, noted, “The VmX platform and services are core to our ability to comprehensively analyze our investment portfolio data. We believe the acquisition and integration into the Chatham ecosystem will be a game changer for the industry.”
With VmX now wholly owned by Chatham Financial, the acquisition highlights Chatham’s efforts to enhance data-driven insights and strategic outcomes in the CRE sector.
