KENNETT SQUARE, PA — Kendal~Crosslands Communities (KCC), a not-for-profit Life Plan Community in Kennett Square, PA, is celebrating 50 years since opening its doors. On Thursday, it commemorated its 50th anniversary with a community event at its Kendal at Longwood campus, where the community’s journey began. The event brought together residents, staff, community members and regional leaders, including Pennsylvania State Representative Christina Sappey, who gave remarks at the ceremony.

With a generous grant from the Philadelphia Yearly Meeting of Friends, Kendal at Longwood opened its doors in October 1973. 50 years later, KCC is a thriving not-for-profit Life Plan Community and is one of the leading charitable organizations in the region serving older people. Over the years, it has expanded its campuses to include Crosslands, Coniston, and Cartmel; completely renovated spaces to embrace state-of-the-art models and Montessori practices; adopted new technologies; and promoted lifelong learning opportunities through its dedication to an empowered community. Additionally, KCC boasts an accredited arboretum and the community’s commitment to preserving the natural environment has earned it recognition as a Certified Wildlife Habitat site by the National Wildlife Federation.

“As we come together to celebrate 50 remarkable years of Kendal~Crosslands Communities, we reflect on the enduring spirit of our community and celebrate all we’ve been able to accomplish together,” said Lisa Marsilio, CEO of Kendal~Crosslands Communities. “We look forward to the next 50 years with a deep sense of gratitude, commitment and excitement for the impact our community will make in the field of aging, and helping people to live their best lives.”

Pennsylvania State Representative Christina Sappey spoke on the 50th anniversary, underscoring the community’s invaluable contributions to the region over the past half-century.

Today, Kendal~Crosslands Communities has more than 900 residents and 600 employees. Many of today’s residents are children and grandchildren of former residents, demonstrating the deep-rooted sense of belonging and shared values that brings KCC together. Similarly, many KCC employees have served for multiple decades and have even chosen to retire within the community. This multigenerational legacy highlights the profound impact and lasting connections that KCC has created for the lives of its residents throughout the past 50 years.

Looking toward the future, KCC states that it remains unwavering in its commitment to serving the local community and the aging population for the next 50 years. Rooted in Quaker values and fueled by a spirit of empowerment, the community aims to continue its legacy of excellence, nurturing the well-being of generations to come.
