MALVERN, PA — New York City Fire Department (FDNY) EMS leaders are set to headline the keynote session at HMP Global’s 2024 EMS World Expo, focusing on the profound lessons from Ground Zero and the enduring impact of the September 11, 2001, attacks on the emergency medical services community.
The EMS World Expo will convene from September 9-13 at the Las Vegas Convention Center. The keynote presentation, titled “The Impact on EMS & Beyond — A Conversation with FDNY EMS Leaders from Ground Zero,” is scheduled for Wednesday, September 11, from 9:30 to 10:45 a.m.
Panelists for the session include distinguished FDNY EMS leaders Dr. Glenn Asaeda, Chief Medical Director; Cesar Escobar, Assistant Chief; and John J. Peruggia, retired Chief of EMS. The discussion will be moderated by Josh Hartman, a 9/11 first responder to the World Trade Center and Senior Vice President of Emergency & Mobile Medicine at HMP Global.
“On September 11, 2001, the largest terror attack on U.S. soil claimed the lives of over 3,000 individuals, including more than 400 emergency personnel,” Hartman noted. “EMS World is dedicated to honoring their memories and highlighting the significant impact of that day on new generations of EMS providers.”
During the roundtable, these EMS leaders will share personal accounts from 9/11, reflect on the critical lessons learned, and discuss how the events have shaped future practices in EMS. This session promises to provide invaluable insights for attendees, offering a deep understanding of the resilience and evolution of the EMS community post-9/11.
