VALLEY FORGE, PA — PJM has revealed a series of organizational changes to enhance its capabilities in maintaining reliability and security, supporting competitive markets, and preparing for the future of the grid. The announcement was made by Manu Asthana, President and CEO of PJM.
The reshuffled Executive Team will see Frederick S. “Stu” Bresler promoted to Executive Vice President – Market Services & Strategy, while Steven McElwee assumes the role of Vice President and Chief Security Officer. Additionally, PJM will initiate an executive search for a new position, Executive Vice President – Operations, Planning & Security, to manage the increasing complexity of grid operations.
Bresler, who has been pivotal in formulating PJM’s current strategic plan, will leverage his deep expertise in markets in his new role. He has been overseeing all aspects of PJM’s market functions, including those for Capacity, Day-Ahead and Real-Time Energy, Ancillary Services, and Financial Transmission Rights. His responsibilities also cover Demand Response operations and the continued evolution of PJM’s markets, integrating renewable resources and developing performance analytics.
“Stu has helped build many of PJM’s markets and ensured all of PJM’s markets support the mission of reliability at the least cost for consumers,” Asthana noted. “His expertise, diligence, and leadership have become indispensable to PJM and its stakeholders, especially during this critical period of energy transition.”
Bresler began his career at PJM in 1994, contributing to system operations, implementing PJM’s Demand Response Program, and designing the market for the Regional Transmission Organization (RTO).
Reflecting on his journey, Bresler said, “It is a real honor and privilege to help PJM ensure the reliable delivery of electricity through the current transition as our region moves toward a lower-emitting generation fleet.”
Bresler holds a Bachelor of Science in electrical engineering and a Master of Management in business administration from The Pennsylvania State University. He chairs the board of APEx, an international organization of electricity and gas market operators, and is a member of the External Advisory Board for the Department of Energy and Mineral Engineering in the Penn State College of Earth and Mineral Sciences.
