VALLEY FORGE, PA — PJM Interconnection, the nation’s largest power grid operator, this week announced a series of strategic organizational changes aimed at enhancing reliability, supporting competitive markets, and preparing for the future of the grid.
PJM President and CEO Manu Asthana revealed the restructuring of the Executive Team, which includes three significant changes. Frederick S. “Stu” Bresler has been promoted to Executive Vice President – Market Services & Strategy, effective Nov. 28. Steven McElwee has been elevated to the newly created role of Vice President and Chief Security Officer. PJM will also initiate an executive search for the new role of Executive Vice President – Operations, Planning & Security.
Bresler, who has been instrumental in developing PJM’s current strategic plan, brings extensive experience in market functions to his new role. He oversees all aspects of PJM’s market operations, including Capacity, Day-Ahead and Real-Time Energy, Ancillary Services, Financial Transmission Rights, and Demand Response operations. Bresler began his tenure at PJM in 1994 and has since played a pivotal role in the development of mechanisms coordinating PJM’s operations and markets with surrounding balancing authorities and regional transmission organizations.
McElwee, assuming his new position on Jan. 10, 2024, brings over 15 years of industry experience, including expertise in cyber threat and risk analysis, security policy development, and governance. His responsibilities extend beyond cybersecurity to include Physical Security, Business Continuity, Facilities Services, and Identity & Access Management.
The organizational changes come amid a period of significant transition for the power grid, as the industry navigates evolving market dynamics, regulatory changes, and the integration of renewable resources. The creation of the new role of Executive Vice President – Operations, Planning & Security underscores PJM’s commitment to operational excellence and planning for a future grid that can accommodate these shifts.
