EXTON, PA — Bentley Systems, Incorporated (Nasdaq: BSY) has announced the appointment of James Lee as the company’s new Chief Operating Officer. Lee, who comes with extensive leadership experience at Google and SAP, will play a critical role in driving Bentley’s operational excellence and supporting its ambitious growth plans.
Lee most recently served as General Manager for startups and artificial intelligence at Google Cloud. Before joining Google in 2020, he spent more than a decade at SAP, holding key leadership roles such as Chief Operating Officer for SAP Ariba and Fieldglass, and General Manager of Sales for SAP Greater China. Lee holds an MBA from Harvard University and a Bachelor of Commerce degree from the University of British Columbia.
At Bentley, Lee will focus on strengthening cross-functional alignment between planning and execution, accelerating operational initiatives, and overseeing strategic areas including the company’s growth in China, Japan, and portfolio development programs like Bentley Asset Analytics.
“I am excited to welcome James, a world-class operational leader, to Bentley,” said Nicholas Cumins, Chief Executive Officer of Bentley. “His energy and experience managing operations and investment initiatives at SAP and Google will be instrumental to Bentley as we continue to scale up and drive our ambitious growth agenda.”
The leadership announcement accompanies a strategic realignment at Bentley that consolidates product development under Chief Technology Officer Julien Moutte. This shift eliminates the Chief Product Officer role, and as a result, Mike Campbell will be leaving the company.
“I would like to thank Mike for his leadership and many accomplishments as Chief Product Officer during the last two years and wish him much success in his future endeavors,” said Cumins.
Cumins emphasized that the reorganization positions Bentley to capture new growth opportunities in infrastructure AI. “Without a doubt, AI is our generation’s paradigm shift and has huge potential for improving infrastructure delivery and performance,” he stated.
Reporting directly to Cumins, Lee will be joined by Moutte, Chief Revenue Officer Brock Ballard, and heads of corporate functions including Marketing, Finance, Legal, and Colleague Success, along with Seequent, Bentley’s subsurface company.
This leadership transition and restructuring aims to increase collaboration and innovation within Bentley’s products and services, as well as streamline decision-making processes.
