WEST CHESTER, PA — Four CEOs representing some of Chester County’s most prominent organizations joined forces last Friday to address pressing issues shaping the Southeastern Pennsylvania economy. Leaders from the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP), CTDI, Vanguard, and Wawa participated in the milestone event, “A Panel of Visionary CEOs,” attended by nearly 550 business leaders, policymakers, educators, and community stakeholders.
The event, hosted at West Chester University’s Emilie K. Asplundh Concert Hall, was jointly organized by the Chester County Chamber of Business & Industry (CCCBI), Chester County Economic Development Council (CCEDC), Transportation Management Association of Chester County (TMACC), and West Chester University. Moderated by 6abc’s Tamala Edwards, the panel covered critical topics, including economic growth, workforce development, sustainability, education, and transportation.
“CCEDC is proud to be part of the partnership bringing this important conversation to our business community,” said Mike Grigalonis, President and COO of CCEDC. “The thoughtful dialogue provided businesses, educators, and policymakers with perspectives needed to plan for 2025 and beyond.”
Each CEO shared insights on their organizations’ contributions to the region. Chris Gheysens, Chairman and CEO of Wawa, highlighted the company’s plans to expand its footprint in both core and new markets, adding jobs and career growth opportunities for its more than 47,000 associates. “Over the next several years, we will invest in all of our communities through new store growth, creating economic impact and opportunities,” Gheysens stated.
Salim Ramji, CEO of Vanguard, reflected on the company’s 50-year history in Valley Forge and its role as the largest employer in Chester County, with more than 10,000 local employees. Ramji emphasized Vanguard’s focus on providing low-cost, high-quality investment solutions and advancing technology-driven client experiences.
Madeline Bell, CEO of CHOP, noted the hospital’s impact as one of Pennsylvania’s largest employers and a key economic driver, with over 100 community-based programs supporting neighborhoods, schools, and businesses. Bell added, “We are investing in reducing burnout and enhancing employee well-being while equipping future healthcare leaders through initiatives like our partnership with Mastery Hardy Williams High School.”
Leo Parsons, President and CEO of CTDI, described the company’s global operations, which serve the communications sector through engineering and logistics solutions. With over 20,000 associates worldwide, CTDI maintains its headquarters in West Chester, where it continues to thrive as a key player in telecommunications innovation.
“This event exemplified the power of collaboration in Chester County,” said Laura Manion, President of CCCBI. “Bringing together these influential organizations and leaders demonstrates our shared commitment to advancing economic growth, fostering innovation, and preparing our workforce for the future.”
By addressing shared challenges and opportunities, the panel provided a roadmap for sustainable growth in Chester County, underscoring the region’s commitment to innovation and strategic leadership.
