MALVERN, PA — Stop Soldier Suicide, a national nonprofit dedicated to preventing suicides among veterans and active-duty military members, has been awarded nearly $30,000 through HMP Global‘s inaugural Day of Giving campaign and a matching grant from the Advance Auto Parts Foundation.

This significant contribution comprises nearly $15,000 raised from HMP Global’s event registrations on August 16, 2024, which was then matched by the foundation. The funds will bolster Stop Soldier Suicide’s efforts to deliver crucial mental health support to those in dire need.

Jeff Hennessy, Chairman and CEO of HMP Global, emphasized the urgency of the cause: “Since record keeping began after 9/11, more than 130,000 active-duty personnel and veterans who served in the military died by suicide. The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs estimates that veterans are at 72% higher risk of suicide than those who have not served. It is imperative that we work together to support the men and women who give so much for us. We are proud to partner with Stop Soldier Suicide to identify those at risk and provide mental health care, as well as raise awareness of this critical issue.”

The donation will enable Stop Soldier Suicide to provide over 40 hours of free, personalized, confidential, evidence-based clinical care to veterans at high risk of suicide. Additionally, it will help identify more than 35 high-risk individuals through targeted marketing and cover the treatment costs for three veterans or service members with licensed mental healthcare professionals.

The nonprofit’s mission is supported through various programs, such as ROGER, a wellness service offering free counseling, and the Black Box Project, which uses forensic data analysis to identify risk patterns in veterans’ digital devices.
