KENNETT SQUARE, PA — Caputo & Guest, the nation’s largest grower of exotic mushrooms, has announced a price reduction across its organic mushroom line. The decision is part of the company’s efforts to expand domestic production, ensuring a fully U.S.-grown product while addressing rising consumer demand for transparency and sustainability in food sourcing.
The price adjustment aligns with a 58.6% increase in demand for specialty mushrooms like Shiitake, King Oyster, Lion’s Mane, and Pearl Oyster over the past three years. General Manager Jeffery Guest Jr. highlighted the broader impact of the move, stating, “We’ve invested heavily in expanding our operations so we can offer premium, organic mushrooms at everyday prices—no imports needed.”
Caputo & Guest’s operations are based entirely in Kennett Square, Pennsylvania, widely recognized as the Mushroom Capital of the World. The company guarantees its mushrooms are grown domestically from start to finish, distinguishing them from many “American” organic mushrooms that are cultivated in Asia and merely packaged in the U.S.
The company has invested in 750,000 square feet of sustainable farming space, creating a tariff-proof supply chain. Their organic mushrooms are cultivated without synthetic fertilizers or pesticides, using upcycled materials like oak and poplar sawdust. This commitment reduces reliance on imports while promoting food security and sustainability.
By prioritizing transparency and reducing costs, Caputo & Guest aims to set a new standard for the organic mushroom industry. Looking ahead, the company plans to continue scaling its domestic operations to meet growing consumer demand while reinforcing the benefits of sourcing 100% U.S.-grown products.
