ChesPenn Health Services to Transition Out of Coatesville in 2025

ChesPenn Health Services

COATESVILLE, PAChesPenn Health Services (CPHS), a key provider of healthcare in Coatesville since 2007, has announced plans to conclude its operations in the community following the end of its lease and grant agreement with the Alliance for Health Equity on June 30, 2025. The Federally Qualified Community Health Center has faced significant financial hurdles but remains dedicated to ensuring a smooth transition for the residents it has served for nearly two decades.

ChesPenn has provided crucial medical and dental care, along with social services, to individuals and families regardless of their ability to pay. Its presence in Coatesville began in 2007 when the Brandywine Foundation, now the Alliance for Health Equity, invited the organization to fill a critical gap in the local healthcare system. Over the years, ChesPenn relied on an essential grant from the Alliance, which provided $300,000 to $350,000 annually to subsidize care for uninsured and underinsured patients.

However, the Alliance recently decided to focus on shorter-term funding strategies as part of its evolving goals for healthcare delivery in Coatesville. Despite ChesPenn’s efforts to secure alternative financial support from other foundations, healthcare systems, and the federal government, no adequate long-term funding solution has been found.

“Without a longer-term financial commitment, it is simply not feasible to sustain the comprehensive care that Coatesville residents need,” ChesPenn stated, underscoring the challenges posed by the funding constraints.

ChesPenn is actively working to make the transition as smooth as possible for its patients and staff. It is collaborating with stakeholders to identify a successor healthcare provider that can continue meeting community needs. Additionally, efforts are underway to assist staff members who wish to remain in Coatesville in finding new opportunities.

Reflecting on its role in the community, ChesPenn expressed gratitude for the trust and support of Coatesville residents. “While this chapter of our work is coming to a close, we are confident that the foundation we’ve built will support the health and well-being of Coatesville residents for years to come.”

ChesPenn will continue providing care until the lease and grant agreement conclude in June 2025, staying committed to its high standard of services throughout the transition. The organization remains optimistic that a new provider will carry forward its mission of compassionate, accessible healthcare for the community.
