PHILADELPHIA, PA — A new children’s book, The Air Came to a Stop, has been released as part of the Next Up Trades Series, aiming to inspire young readers to explore careers in the skilled trades. Designed for children aged 4 to 10, the fictional story introduces readers to the world of HVACR (Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning, and Refrigeration) through engaging characters and an educational storyline.

The story follows Kay, a curious child who notices that her classroom feels unusually warm. While trying to help her classmates, Kay unintentionally causes an air conditioning problem. The situation is resolved when HVACR professionals, Gomer Gopher and Drafty Giraffe, from the contracting company Next Up Trades, step in to save the day. Through their teamwork and expertise, the students learn about HVACR technology and the critical role skilled technicians play in keeping communities comfortable.

Ryan Kiscaden, a marketer in the HVACR and plumbing industries, authored the book to inspire interest among children in trade careers. “This book was written to educate youth about our everyday heroes of comfort,” Kiscaden explained. “When you introduce children to new vocabulary and showcase how technicians help others, it provides an impactful way of showing how exciting this stable and technology-driven field really is.”

The book has also garnered support from industry leaders. Barton James, president and CEO of the Air Conditioning Contractors of America (ACCA), emphasized the importance of reaching young audiences. “Our country’s youth truly are the future of this amazing industry; this book is vital to address the critical shortage of skilled technicians in our industry,” James said. “By engaging children at a young age, we’re planting seeds for future opportunities in HVACR and encouraging them to explore skilled trade careers.”
