WEST CHESTER, PA — AccessLex Institute® has announced the launch of LexPostBacc Direct, an expansion of its pioneering LexScholars initiative, reaffirming the organization’s commitment to increasing diversity in legal education. The program provides aspiring law students from underrepresented backgrounds with a direct pathway to law school preparation resources and financial support, addressing structural barriers that often hinder access to legal careers.
The LexScholars initiative, introduced in 2020, has already supported over 1,200 participants in pursuing their law school dreams. Built on a mission of empowering diverse talent and addressing inequities in admissions processes, LexScholars has become a leading diversity pipeline, helping hundreds of students from underrepresented racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds enroll in U.S. law schools.
“Over the last five years, LexScholars has become the largest diversity pathway feeder into the nation’s law schools,” said Aaron N. Taylor, Senior Vice President and Executive Director of the AccessLex Center for Legal Education Excellence®. “With LexPostBacc Direct, we’re expanding that reach, giving more students the opportunity to fulfill their potential and contribute to the legal field.”
An Inclusive Framework for Success
The LexScholars initiative now includes three distinct programs designed to support students throughout their law school journeys:
- LexPreLaw: Offers critical resources such as admissions counseling, LSAT preparation, and financial assistance to help participants successfully complete the admissions process.
- LexPostBacc: Introduces Scholars to foundational law school subjects via a 10-month preparatory curriculum. Participants referred by partner law schools are guaranteed admission and receive a scholarship from the referring institution upon successful completion, a stipend during law school, and a free Helix Bar Review course upon graduation.
- LexPostBacc Direct: The latest addition allows applicants to join the LexPostBacc program independently, bypassing the need for a law school referral. Those who complete the 10-month curriculum and gain admission to law school will receive the same financial and preparatory benefits as traditional PostBacc Scholars, including a stipend while in law school and a Helix Bar Review course.
Driving Diversity in the Legal Profession
The LexScholars initiative exemplifies AccessLex’s broader mission to cultivate a legal profession that mirrors the rich diversity of the nation. By addressing disparities in law school admissions and providing tangible support for underrepresented students, it aims to foster more equitable access to legal careers.
Applications for LexPostBacc Direct will open on April 1, 2025, offering a new avenue for aspiring lawyers to prepare for the challenges and opportunities of legal education.
With this expansion, AccessLex continues to make strides toward a more inclusive legal profession, empowering the next generation to contribute their unique perspectives and voices to the field of law.
