HMP Global

MALVERN, PA — Leaders from the healthcare, regulatory, and wound care sectors will converge in Grapevine, Texas, on Friday, May 2, for the second annual Driving Innovation in Wound Care Summit. Hosted by HMP Global’s Symposium on Advanced Wound Care (SAWC) Spring and Wound Healing Society (WHS) meeting, in collaboration with the Wound Care Collaborative Community (WCCC), the event will concentrate on breaking barriers to innovation and enhancing patient outcomes in wound care.

This year’s summit, themed “Collaboration Encourages Innovation: Setting New Standards in Wound Care,” will unite experts from prominent organizations including the National Institutes of Health (NIH), Food and Drug Administration (FDA), and Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS). Through discussions with clinicians, researchers, industry representatives, health systems, and payers, participants will tackle obstacles impeding wound care advancements and explore solutions to surmount those issues.

Key Focus Areas

A major highlight of the summit will be the unveiling of the WCCC Expert Panel Consensus Recommendations, which were developed based on the findings of last year’s event. These recommendations aim to influence policies, promote regulatory progress, and stimulate innovations in wound care products and standards, directly impacting patient care advancements.

Virtual keynote speaker Dr. Michelle Tarver, Director of the FDA’s Center for Devices and Radiological Health, will deliver a presentation spotlighting the regulatory landscape. Dr. Tarver will emphasize the importance of cooperation among stakeholders in accelerating innovations while maintaining safety and patient efficacy.

The summit’s agenda includes pivotal sessions such as:

  • An overview and updates on current WCCC initiatives;
  • Guidance for start-ups on engaging with the FDA, NIH, and WCCC;
  • A roundtable discussion on fostering innovation with the FDA and CMS;
  • Updates on standards for advanced wound dressings and patient care;
  • FDA guidance on designing clinical trials for chronic wounds; and
  • New initiatives, including updates on ICD-10 coding for diabetic foot ulcers and the development of a 10-year registry.
