KENNETT SQUARE, PA — Genesis HealthCare, one of the nation’s largest providers of post-acute care services, this week announced that 19 of its affiliated facilities across nine states have been recognized as Best Nursing Homes for 2024 by U.S. News & World Report. The accolade underscores the company’s commitment to providing exceptional healthcare services and setting new standards in patient care.
The annual Best Nursing Homes ratings by U.S. News have been a trusted source of guidance for consumers seeking short-term rehabilitation or long-term care since 2009. The 19 Genesis-affiliated facilities earned the prestigious status by achieving a rating of “High Performing,” the highest possible rating in either Short-Term Rehabilitation, Long-Term Care, or both. This designation is only given to facilities that consistently excel in quality measures in U.S. News’ rigorous assessment.
The recognized facilities are spread across Delaware, Kentucky, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New Mexico, Pennsylvania, and Rhode Island. Three of them, namely Hathorne Hill in Danvers, MA, Doctors Community Rehabilitation in Lanham, MD, and Kent Regency in Warwick, RI, received high ratings for both Short-Term Rehabilitation and Long-Term Care.
Melissa Powell, Chief Operating Officer of Genesis, expressed her pride in the recognition: “Achieving a title of ‘Best Nursing Home for 2024’ is a significant accomplishment and reflects the dedication, hard work, and commitment of the care teams at each facility in providing excellent care and services. I am so proud of the positive impact these facilities have on the lives of their patients, residents, families and the communities they serve.”
For the 2024 edition, U.S. News evaluated more than 15,000 nursing homes based on important factors such as infection rates, staffing levels, inappropriate reliance on antipsychotic drugs, health inspection results, and other quality indicators.
“Nursing homes that have earned the recognition of U.S. News have a track record of achieving better outcomes for patients and residents, and maximizing the amount of care they receive from nurses and other staff,” said Ben Harder, chief of health analysis and managing editor at U.S. News.
The ratings were calculated using data from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), including resident care, safety, and outcomes. Both short- and long-term ratings took into account nurse staffing, use of antipsychotic drugs, and success in preventing ER and hospital visits. The long-term care rating also included measures of whether a home changed ownership and how well it was staffed on weekends.
This recognition of Genesis HealthCare facilities as some of the Best Nursing Homes for 2024 is a testament to the company’s commitment to maintaining high standards of care and its dedication to improving patient outcomes. With this announcement, Genesis continues to cement its position as a leader in the healthcare industry.
