Aqua Pennsylvania Upgrades Chester County Water Infrastructure to Enhance Reliability

Aqua Pennsylvania

BRYN MAWR, PA — Aqua Pennsylvania has announced a significant infrastructure upgrade in Chester County, replacing 12,840 feet of aging water mains in Tredyffrin, Thornbury, and Easttown Townships. The project involves swapping out century-old cast iron pipes with modern ductile iron mains, made from nearly 90% recycled materials. These upgrades are designed to improve water reliability, prevent leaks, and reduce service interruptions for local residents and businesses.

Targeted Upgrades Across Three Townships

Tredyffrin Township is the focus of the most extensive upgrades, with 9,200 feet of water mains being replaced. The work, affecting Glenhardie Road (between Walker Road and the Turnpike overpass) and Bearhill Road (between Heatherstone Drive and Old Cassatt Road), aims to address aging infrastructure that has exceeded its lifespan.

Thornbury Township is undergoing similar improvements, with crews replacing 3,040 feet of water mains. The upgrades are happening along Southgate Road (between S. Westbourne and Northgate Roads) and Northgate Road (between E. Street Road and the end of the cul-de-sac).

Easttown Township rounds out the project with the replacement of 600 feet of pipes along White Horse Road, stretching between Bridle Lane and Darby Paoli Road.

Benefits of Modernization

The new ductile iron mains are designed to meet community demands more effectively and ensure reliable service for decades. By replacing outdated cast iron pipes, Aqua Pennsylvania aims to reduce maintenance issues like leaks and breaks, which have become more frequent as the older infrastructure ages. The upgrades also minimize environmental risks by reducing the chances of water loss into the ground.

A spokesperson for Aqua Pennsylvania explained that older systems are more prone to failure. They emphasized that the updated infrastructure is designed for durability, providing reassurance to families and businesses in the area.

Addressing Pennsylvania’s Aging Water Systems

Many of Pennsylvania’s drinking water systems date back nearly a century, with pipes that have far surpassed their intended service life. Frequent leaks and disruptions underscore the urgency of these investment projects. Aqua Pennsylvania’s efforts are part of a broader infrastructure improvement initiative aimed at strengthening water and wastewater systems across the state.

By using ductile iron mains composed of recycled materials, Aqua is not only improving the functionality of water systems but also contributing to sustainable practices.

Looking Ahead

These Chester County upgrades spotlight Aqua Pennsylvania’s effort to modernize aging infrastructure for the long-term benefit of local communities. With a focus on reliability, environmental consciousness, and enhanced service delivery, the company’s ongoing investments promise to support growing demands while reducing risks.

As Aqua Pennsylvania continues its infrastructure improvement program, Chester County residents can look forward to safer, more sustainable water systems, ensuring reliable service for generations to come.
