HARRISBURG, PA — State Rep. Danielle Friel Otten, D-Chester, has announced the approval of a $450,000 state grant to improve pedestrian and cyclist safety along Lincoln Highway in Caln Township. The funding, allocated through the Commonwealth Financing Authority’s Multimodal Transportation Fund, will support enhancements to address safety concerns in a growing residential and commercial area.
The project involves two major sections of the Lincoln Highway corridor. Planned upgrades include the installation of 42 streetlights along Lincoln Highway West (1500–1800 blocks) and 48 streetlights along Lincoln Highway East (4200–4400 blocks). Additionally, pavement markings will be added to create a dedicated bicycle lane, providing a safer route for cyclists. The improvements aim to ensure pedestrian safety and better access to public transportation for residents who regularly rely on local bus stops.
“The planned improvements in Caln Township will help to ensure pedestrian safety, as well as safe access to public transportation for residents who use the bus stops along this stretch of Business Route 30,” Otten explained. She commended Caln Township commissioners for their dedication to enhancing safety for all road users and expressed gratitude for the state’s investment in a project she believes will strengthen connections within the community and beyond.
The project underscores the importance of ensuring infrastructure keeps pace with local growth while promoting accessibility and safety for all. By installing critical upgrades, Caln Township stands to improve key transit routes, connect residents with local jobs and businesses, and support broader economic development.
With construction on the horizon, the improvements are set to transform Lincoln Highway into a safer, more functional space for pedestrians, cyclists, and drivers alike, helping the community adapt to its evolving needs.
