$1 Million Windfall: Kestrel Hill Preserve Set to Transform Local Conservation and Community Life!

Grant money

PAOLI, PAState Representative Melissa Shusterman, D-Chester, has announced the allocation of $1 million in Community Conservation Partnerships Program funding to the Willistown Conservation Trust. This substantial grant is earmarked for the acquisition of a 90-acre tract in Willistown Township, destined to become the Kestrel Hill Preserve, a sanctuary designed to balance recreational use with environmental protection.

The newly established Kestrel Hill Preserve will offer a haven for both wildlife and the community, featuring dedicated trails for hiking, running, and horseback riding. The preserve is envisioned as a vital habitat for local bird species and diverse wildlife, contributing to the ecological health of the area. “Preserving green spaces is essential to our overall quality of life,” emphasized Rep. Shusterman. “These spaces provide critical habitats for wildlife, help to regulate our climate, and offer opportunities for recreation and relaxation. This new nature preserve represents an important investment in the future of our community.”

The funding is part of the broader Community Conservation Partnerships Program (C2P2) administered by the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources. The C2P2 initiative is designed to empower Pennsylvania communities by offering grants and technical support to help them plan and implement conservation projects. This includes developing parks, conserving natural habitats, and enhancing recreation facilities, thereby fostering a sustainable relationship between natural resources and community development.

Through C2P2, projects like the Kestrel Hill Preserve not only preserve essential green spaces but also strengthen local ecosystems, contribute to climate regulation, and provide accessible recreational areas that enhance community well-being. The program underscores a commitment to sustainable development and environmental stewardship, ensuring that natural areas are safeguarded for future generations.
