PHILADELPHIA, PA — This summer, the Pennsylvania SPCA (PSPCA) introduces its first-ever Pittiefest, offering $5 adoption fees for classic pitties. The event runs through Sunday, August 11, at the PSPCA’s Philadelphia headquarters and Main Line Animal Rescue site.

Pittiefest aims to find loving homes for pitties while educating the public. The event highlights that “pitbull” is not a breed but a term for dogs with similar traits. Visitors can learn important facts and debunk common misconceptions about these dogs.

Adopters can visit the Philadelphia headquarters or the Main Line Animal Rescue during open hours to meet adoptable pitties. All classic pitties will have a $5 adoption fee, but standard adoption policies and procedures remain in effect.

Gillian Kocher, Director of Public Relations at the Pennsylvania SPCA, said, “We hope that PSPCA’s Pittiefest will become an annual summer tradition, celebrating the majestic animals that are commonly referred to as pitties. This promotion is a time to find homes for these deserving animals, and celebrate everything about them, while simultaneously busting myths.”

Why Pittiefest Matters

Pittiefest is vital for several reasons. It addresses the urgent need for homes for pitties, who often face prejudice and misconceptions. By reducing adoption fees, the PSPCA hopes more families will consider these loving pets. The event also serves as an educational platform, correcting myths and providing accurate information about pitties.

Adopting a pitty can be a rewarding experience. These dogs are loyal, loving, and make great family pets. Pittiefest aims to change the narrative and promote responsible pet ownership. The $5 adoption fee is symbolic, showing that every dog deserves a chance at a happy home regardless of cost.
