According to recent data, Pennsylvanians have an optimistic outlook on their life expectancy. Residents predict they will live one year longer than the official state life expectancy which is good news for the state.

When you delve a bit deeper, Pennsylvanians have clear advantages when it comes to their health and life expectancy. Their higher rate of access to quality healthcare, low poverty rate, and higher median household income compared to the national average provide them with a set of benefits for living healthy lives. Beyond that, lower numbers of smoking and excessive drinking mean that Pennsylvanians are limiting the potential risk factors they are exposed to.

This puts Pennsylvanians in an even better position, as conditions like these can often lead to preventable illnesses and shorter lifespans. On top of all this, Pennsylvania appears to be doing something right when it comes to keeping its population well. There is no doubt that all these factors taken together allow Pennsylvanians the opportunity for longer life expectancy than the national average.

Americans Predict Two Years Longer Than Official Life Expectancy

It appears that Americans are confident about living longer than predicted. According to the data, Rhode Islanders and Nevadans are particularly optimistic; believing they will live 6 years beyond the average life expectancy in their respective states. Comparatively, New Mexicans have a much more realistic view of their own longevity and predict only two years past their state’s predictions. While it is encouraging to see such optimism towards a healthier lifespan of over 80 years, we should be careful not to overestimate our physical capabilities when we reach our senior years and remain mindful of the actual health risks associated with aging.

Drug Trials & Vitamin Supplements Not Proven Ways To Increase Lifespan

Although nearly half of surveyed individuals claimed they would be willing to participate in drug trials if it doubled their life span, only a third (38% )  say they take supplements and medications for the specific purpose of living a longer life. Nevertheless, neither of these options has been proven effective for increasing lifespan or maintaining healthiness with age. In fact, making lifestyle changes that enable good sleep, eating nutritious foods, and engaging in regular physical activity are the best ways to ensure your body and mind stay healthy with each passing year. Taking certain vitamins can also help keep the immune system robust and contribute to overall wellbeing.

Physical Activity & Proper Nutrition Keys Unlocking Longer Healthier Lives

For many individuals, living a longer and healthier life is the ultimate goal. Yet, as recent CDC data indicates, achieving optimal health as you age requires more than just hoping for the best. Life expectancy can be greatly increased by making physical activity and proper nutrition a priority. In fact, only 20% of US adults meet recommended guidelines for aerobic or muscle-strengthening activities outlined by the United States Department of Health and Human Services – a reality that should motivate all Pennsylvanians and Americans to adopt an active lifestyle in order to increase their quality of life and wellness as they age. Healthy eating habits combined with an adequate amount of exercise is not only beneficial for increasing longevity but can also decrease health risks such as heart disease, diabetes, respiratory problems, and depression. Therefore, it is essential for adults to prioritize physical activity and nutrition if they wish to reach the highest level of healthiness possible.

Key Takeaways

Overall, Pennsylvanians are optimistic about their longevity compared with the state’s average life expectancy which is great news! However, there is still room for improvement when it comes to making healthy lifestyle choices such as engaging in physical activity regularly and maintaining good nutrition habits in order for residents of Pennsylvania and all other states alike to maximize their potential health span throughout their lives. It is important now more than ever before that we take proactive steps towards bettering our overall well-being so that we can reap the rewards later on down the road!
