NOTTINGHAM, PA — The wait is over for snack enthusiasts in Philadelphia. Herr Foods Inc. has announced the winner of its third annual #FlavoredbyPhilly contest, and the people have spoken. Romano’s Stromboli: Special Hot Chips has emerged victorious, capturing the essence of Philadelphia’s rich culinary heritage.

Earlier this summer, Herr’s introduced three unique chip flavors crafted for the City of Brotherly Love. Fans had the opportunity to vote for their favorite, and the results are in. Romano’s Stromboli won, standing out in a tough competition that included flavors like Talluto’s Cheese Ravioli and Marinara, and Mom Mom’s Kitchen Potato Pierogi.

The #FlavoredbyPhilly contest saw nearly 50% more votes compared to the previous year, with 26,360 snack lovers participating. This surge in voter engagement underscores the strong community support for local businesses and Philadelphia’s vibrant food culture.

Herr’s CEO Ed Herr expressed his excitement over the contest’s outcome. “This year’s ‘Flavored by Philly’ contest has been an extraordinary journey. We are excited to announce Romano’s Stromboli: Special Hot Chips as the winner. Their creative interpretation of a beloved Philadelphia classic truly captures the essence of the contest.”

Romano’s Stromboli has been a Philadelphia staple since 1950, founded by Nazzereno Romano. Now under the leadership of Peter Romano, the third-generation owner, the business continues to serve its cherished Strombolis using time-honored methods.

Peter Romano shared his excitement about the win. “Special Hot Stromboli is a cherished family recipe that’s been beloved in our community for generations. As long-time fans of Herr’s, we’re thrilled and grateful for this opportunity. This recognition is truly humbling, and we’re excited to continue sharing our flavors with snack enthusiasts everywhere.”

The winning flavor, Romano’s Stromboli: Special Hot Chips, blends savory cheese with the perfect amount of heat and spice, reflecting the iconic Philadelphia delicacy. This collaboration with Herr’s elevates the traditional Stromboli into an exceptional chip experience.

As the contest winner, Romano’s Stromboli receives $10,000, and the nominator, John Lishok, will also receive $5,000. The runners-up, Talluto’s and Mom Mom’s Kitchen, will each receive $2,500, with their nominators getting $1,000 each.

Join Herr’s in celebrating Romano’s Stromboli’s incredible achievement. The #FlavoredbyPhilly contest will return next year, offering more exciting flavors and a chance to celebrate Philadelphia’s culinary creativity.
