WEST CHESTER, PA — ACT in Faith of Greater West Chester recently announced the winner of its 9th Annual Chef’s Best culinary competition, featuring the top restaurants in the West Chester area. Rams Head Bar & Grill , located on Market Street in downtown West Chester, received the most votes from diners for its lamb lollies with homemade chimichurri and balsamic reduction. The event raised $10,000 to enable ACT in Faith of Greater West Chester to support the un- and underemployed in the West Chester community.

“It’s the second time Rams Head has won,” said ACT in Faith Board President Denise Antonelli, who is also a partner at the West Chester law firm Gawthrop Greenwood. “We’re happy to present them with another ‘Best of Chef’s Best’ award.”

Rams Head Chef James Jones said, “We came in ready to defend our title, and we’re thrilled to continue our winning streak. We’re ready to return next year with our elevated comfort food and high-quality ingredients.”

Rams Head Bar & Grill’s winning dish was lamb lollies with homemade chimichurri and balsamic reduction. This the second time the restaurant has won the annual Chef’s Best competition benefitting ACT in Faith of Greater West Chester, an interfaith organization that seeks to empower un- and under-employed West Chester residents to stabilize their households and build toward sustainability.

Chef’s Best, the signature fundraiser of ACT in Faith of Greater West Chester, featured a twist this year to accommodate COVID restrictions. What was a one-night, in-person event morphed into a six-week restaurant tour, from April 11 to May 26, of Rams Head, Opa Tavern, Split Rail Tavern and Slow Hand. All four participating restaurants offered a free signature appetizer to patrons taking part in Chef’s Best. A $50 ticket entitled diners to one coupon for each of the four restaurants on the tour and the opportunity to vote for the “Best of Chef’s Best.”

This year’s event raised thousands of dollars for ACT in Faith, and the interfaith organization is looking forward to returning to its single-night event in 2023. “We’re hoping that Chef’s Best will be back in person next year. We’re already hearing from restaurants who would like to compete for a great cause,” said Antonelli.

“With pandemic concerns still prevalent this year, we wanted to support the local restaurants by encouraging in-person dining,” Antonelli continued.  “And while everyone appreciated this option, our supporters have told us they love the experience of being together, in a single location, so they can watch the chefs compete in real time while they support ACT in Faith. We look forward to returning to that one-of-a-kind experience in 2023!”
