Nevertheless, there are other factors that include the location, service, seating, surroundings, and price. Regardless of if it is for lunch, dinner, or a special occasion, a restaurant must work hard to attract attention.
It is a prerequisite for a good restaurant to serve good food. But, to considered be of the best restaurants in Chester County PA, an establishment must do much more. Very often, what separates the great from the good comes down to attention to details and consistency. The very best restaurants will obsess over everything, including the plates, glassware, napkins, lighting and, of course, the food.
Regardless, most of us will rely on the personal recommendation of others, whether it is from online reviews or the advice of friends and family. Personally, I like to try places that are busy and always full of people. Yet, I will avoid eateries that are small and too tightly packed. All and all, my favorite restaurants are those with fresh, delicious food, provide a good value, includes a relaxed atmosphere, and has a knowledgeable, friendly, and professional staff.
Today, I am sharing my personal list of the 10 best restaurants in Chester County PA. The recommendations run the gambit, from fine dining to moderately priced and from Mexican cuisine to local eats.
10 Best Restaurants in Chester County PA
1. Portabello’s of Kennett Square
115 W State St, Kennett Square PA
Portabellos of Kennett Square describes itself as “new American cuisine with international overtones.” Regardless, at this moderately priced restaurant, you can find menu items such as Oysters Savoy, Roasted Mushroom Soup, Crispy Duck, and Veal Parmesana. Moreover, they provide an open kitchen experience. Many will consider this the best restaurant in Kennett Square.
2. 1906 at Longwood Gardens
1001 Longwood Rd, Kennett Square PA
Located within Longwood Gardens, the 1906 Fine Dining Rooms is named in recognition of the year Pierre S. du Pont buying the grounds. While some may question the value, the food, service, and atmosphere are exceptional. Here, you will mostly find American cuisine with vegetarian and vegan options available.
3. Taco-Maya Mexican Grill
221 Eagleview Blvd, Exton, PA 19341-1158
Taco-Maya Mexican Grill transitions our list from Fine Dining to Cheap Eats. However, if you are looking for great Mexican food, it is time to take a trip to Exton. Taco-Maya Mexican Grill offers truly homemade and authentic burritos, tacos, and quesadillas. Whether you chose to dine in or take out, you will not be disappointed.
4. Hank’s Place
1410 Baltimore Pike, US 1 and Rt 100, Chadds Ford PA
While you can sometimes expect a wait, the homestyle meals and fresh baked goodies will make it all worthwhile. This is a very popular place with the locals and with one visit, you will quickly learn why. The service is always friendly and the food is always good. I recommend going there for an old-fashioned county breakfast.
5. Green Street Grill
150 E Pennsylvania Ave, Downingtown PA
While we are on the subject of great places for breakfast, the Green Street Grill is a great, casual style eatery that provides many great options. Best of all, they server breakfast all day, every day, Moreover, while the atmosphere may not be for everyone, the food and service is outstanding.
6. Iron Hill Brewery & Restaurant
3 W Gay St, West Chester PA
In my humble opinion, the Iron Hill Brewery & Restaurant is the absolute best restaurant in West Chester. It provides a fun and casual atmosphere along with truly great food and amazing service. If nothing else, you will fall in love with their signature beers. This is a popular place. So, consider calling ahead or making reservations even for lunch.
7. Antica Italian Restaurant
1623 Baltimore Pike, Chadds Ford, PA 19317
I can almost guarantee, Antica Italian Restaurant provides the kind of food you think of when imagining Italian cuisine. Additionally, the friendly and positional staff provides a fabulous experience. Antica will provide a delightful evening out. The only real downside is that it is BYOB.
8. September Farm
5287 Horseshoe Pike, Honey Brook PA
While many may find the September Farm off the beaten path, making the trek out to the more rural parts of western Chester County is well worth the trip. The September Farm’s sandwich shop serves some of the best burgers and signature sandwiches you will ever find, plus great homemade soups and delicious fried foods. You will also want to stop by their market and bakery for some Pennsylvania Dutch goodies.
9. Whip Tavern
1383 N Chatham Rd, Coatesville PA
While we are talking about finds off the beaten path, Whip Tavern is a little gem about 16 miles west of West Chester. Their menu is an English Pub theme and they are located in a very rural area of Chester County. Here you will find a great pub food and great beers and beverages. However, this is in the middle of horse country. As a result, prices may seem a bit high.
10. Ron’s Original Bar & Grille
74 E Uwchlan Ave, Exton PA
Last on my list, but certainly not least, is Ron’s Original Bar & Grille in Exton. You will walk out of Ron’s truly satisfied. While many would tell you that the restaurant is more correctly located in Chester Springs, Ron’s is a step above your typical Italian Eatery and Pizzeria. A local favorite, the food is away great and the service is always amazing.
