Trailblazer in Music Education! Dr. Timothy Blair Earns Top Honor for Transforming the Arts

KENNETT SQUARE, PA — Dr. Timothy Blair, President of the Kennett Symphony of Chester County’s Board of Directors, has been awarded the Leadership Service Award by the Music Teachers National Association (MTNA), recognizing his exceptional contributions to music education and leadership within the arts.

The national honor was presented to Dr. Blair during the MTNA National Conference in Minneapolis, Minnesota, on March 19. Days later, on March 23, he was celebrated locally at the Kennett Symphony’s sold-out Masterworks 2: Inspirations concert, held in the Exhibition Hall of Longwood Gardens.

“This award confirms what all of us on the Board of the Kennett Symphony Orchestra know: Tim Blair is a national musical treasure!” said Colin Hanna, Vice-President of the Kennett Symphony Board of Directors. Michael Hall, Music Director of the Kennett Symphony, added, “Tim has dedicated his life to the pursuit of musical excellence. From his role as a Steinway Artist performing on stages around the world, to his tenure as Dean of the School of Music at West Chester University, his contributions to the arts are extraordinary. Now, with the Music Teachers National Association’s Leadership Service Award, he adds another feather to his cap—a truly prestigious honor that reflects the impact he has made on the world of music education.”

A highly accomplished Steinway Artist, Dr. Blair has made an indelible mark on arts and education. Over a career spanning more than 30 years, including over two decades at West Chester University, he rose to hold deanships in the College of Visual & Performing Arts and later the College of Arts & Humanities.

Dr. Blair’s leadership extends beyond his university career. He serves on the boards of several prominent arts organizations, including the Grammy-winning Crossing Choir, and has been President of the Kennett Symphony’s Board of Directors since April 2023. His academic credentials include degrees from Susquehanna University, New England Conservatory of Music, and Catholic University of America.

The Kennett Symphony community expressed its admiration and gratitude for Dr. Blair’s ongoing dedication.
