PHILADELPHIA, PA — The Archdiocese of Philadelphia is inviting talented students from its local high schools to audition for the prestigious All Catholic Music Festivals. The auditions, set to take place in early December, will determine the members of the All Catholic Chorus, Concert Band, Jazz Band, and Strings for the upcoming year.
Auditions will be held at two separate locations. The All Catholic Chorus auditions are scheduled for Monday, December 4, 2023, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Conwell-Egan Catholic High School in Fairless Hill, PA. The auditions for the All Catholic Concert Band, Jazz Band, and Strings will take place on Wednesday, December 6, 2023, from 4:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m. at Archbishop Wood High School in Warminster, PA.
The All Catholic Music Festivals program features high school students from across the five-county region. Each year, students must audition to earn their place in these esteemed ensembles. The auditions are open to any student attending an Archdiocesan or private Catholic high school in the area.
Students selected through the auditions then participate in a three-day festival under the direction of a renowned conductor. These festivals are held at various Archdiocesan and private Catholic high schools, with members rehearsing throughout the day while regular school activities continue.
Interested students should contact their school’s music director to register for the auditions. Preparation begins in November, with successful applicants notified by early December.
The week before the festival, select ensembles gather for an intense period of focused practice. During the festival, instrumentalists and vocalists work closely with their conductor to master challenging repertoire, culminating in a public performance at the end of the festival.
Sister Lauretta Linsalata, I.H.M., Chairperson of the Secondary Visual and Performing Arts Program & Festival Coordinator, serves as the Director of the All Catholic Music Festivals.
This is a fantastic chance for students to showcase their musical talents and be part of an enriching cultural experience. Learn more about Catholic schools in the Archdiocese of Philadelphia here.
