PHOENIXVILLE, PA – Classic film enthusiasts, prepare to delve into the shadowy world of film noir as NOIR CITY: Philadelphia makes its anticipated return to the historic Colonial Theatre (227 Bridge St, Phoenixville) from November 15 to 17. Hosted by the renowned Eddie Muller, the Film Noir Foundation president and Turner Classic Movies’ Noir Alley host, this year’s festival promises a captivating mix of international and English-language noir classics.
The festival’s ten-film lineup pairs thematic double bills that traverse the globe, offering noir gems from Argentina, France, Japan, and Italy alongside American and British classics. Film aficionados will be treated to narratives rich with heists, prison escapes, and the quintessential elements of mystery and murder that define the genre.
NOIR CITY: Philadelphia opens with the Film Noir Foundation’s latest restoration, “Never Open That Door” (No abras nunca esa puerta), a 1952 Argentine thriller inspired by Cornell Woolrich’s suspenseful stories. Other notable screenings include the English-language rarities “Black Tuesday” (1954) and “Across the Bridge” (1957), as well as international masterpieces like Japan’s “Zero Focus” (Zero No Shoten, 1961) and Italy’s “Smog” (1962).
Adding a literary flair to the event, Eddie Muller will host a book signing on Saturday, November 16. Attendees can purchase Muller’s acclaimed works, including “Dark City: The Lost World of Film Noir,” “Noir Bar: Cocktails Inspired by the World of Film Noir,” and the intriguing “Kid Noir: Kitty Feral and the Case of the Marshmallow Monkey.”
