Mary Poppin Comes to SALT October 13 – 29, 2023

Mary Poppins
Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious: Mary Poppins The Musical comes to SALT Performing Arts October 13 – 29, 2023!

CHESTER SPRINGS, PA — Everyone’s favorite practically perfect nanny takes the SALT stage in Mary Poppins this Fall. Following the original story by author Pamela Lyndon Travers in 1934, Mary Poppins presents life lessons that are timeless. SALT’s rendition this Fall was created by Disney and Cameron Mackintosh and based on a book by Academy Award-winning screenwriter Julian Fellowes. Original score pieces by Richard M. Sherman and Robert B. Sherman can be heard along with new songs and added music and lyrics by acclaimed British duo George Stiles and Anthony Drew.

Mary Poppins is the captivating story of the Banks family who live in a big house in London. Things are not going well for the family –  the children, Jane and Michael, are out of control and are in need of a new nanny. Jane and Michael have their own ideas about what sort of caretaker they should have, while their parents are insistent on someone strict for the job. When a mysterious young woman named Mary Poppins appears at their doorstep, the family finds that she’s the answer to their prayers, but in the most peculiar way. Mary Poppins takes the children on many magical and memorable adventures, but Jane and Michael aren’t the only ones she has a profound effect on. Even grown-ups can learn a lesson or two from the nanny who advises that “anything can happen if you let it.”

“If there’s one thing that anyone who has seen Mary Poppins would agree with, it’s the fact that with the right amount of imagination, anything is possible,” comments Lauren McComas, President and Artistic Director of SALT Performing Arts. “Mary instills this idea in the Banks children, and it’s something that anyone who has ever accomplished anything that seemed impossible can attest to. With Robbie Merow, who is not only the director but also the set, lighting, and sound designer, the impossible will happen as you can be sure that our production sorcery is that which normally only high-end Broadway budgets allow!”
