Record-Breaking Unity Day Celebration in Coatesville Brings Community Together

COATESVILLE, PA — Coatesville residents and youth came out in droves to celebrate Unity Day on July 8, 2023, at Gateway Park. With a diverse display of food trucks, local vendors, and community organizations, the event showcased the unity and spirit of the community. Shannan Thomas, the owner of Thee Social Station-Event Planning, helped transform the park into a festive space filled with music, dancing, food, games, and fireworks. Councilwoman Charisse Allen called it one of Coatesville’s best community events this year. Additionally, Unity Day marked the start of the City of Coatesville’s Sounds of Summer Music Festival, a five-week music series that is free to the public.

The record-breaking turnout at Coatesville’s Unity Day celebration was a testament to the enduring spirit of the community. Residents and youth of all ages came out to enjoy the festivities and show their support for the city. The event was made possible by the hard work of dedicated community volunteers and City Council members, including Linda Lavender Norris, Carmen Green, and Arvilla Hunt.

The event showcased Coatesville’s diversity, with food trucks serving up a variety of cuisines and local vendors and community organizations sharing their wares and missions. Attendees could participate in games and activities, dance to music from local DJs and bands, and culminate the evening with a dazzling fireworks display. Unity Day also marked the beginning of the City of Coatesville’s Sounds of Summer Music Festival. This free, five-week music series ran every second and fourth Friday evening, starting July 28 and ending September 22. The festival features a lineup of talented performers, including the G2 Band, The Experience Band from Washington DC, The Kevin Cooper Band, and Hidden Treasures. DJ Dre Money and the 50/50 Entertainment LG’s crew provided Friday Nite wind-down tunes to start the weekend. Attendees are encouraged to bring lawn chairs and dancing shoes to enjoy the music under the stars at Gateway Park.
