DOWNINGTOWN, PA — Downingtown Middle School Musical Theater is finally back live on stage in the highly anticipated upcoming February production of Disney’s “Newsies!” This family-friendly show is based upon the real historical events surrounding the Newsboy strike of 1899, led by passionate, gutsy teen leader Jack Kelly, set to the infectious toe-tapping music of Menken & Feldman.
Following up on a successful Theater Department-sponsored virtual abridged version of “A Christmas Carol” and “Little Women” back in December 2020, creatively captured from each student’s home in homespun, makeshift costumes via Zoom, this double cast and crew are thrilled to finally be live on stage performing alongside one another. This army of dedicated kids energetically supports the vision of this spirited story of grit, equality, brotherhood, perseverance, and the pursuit of happiness brought to life under the brilliant direction of Mr. Floyd Rawleigh and Mrs. Alison Nugent, a talented production team of many and a live pit orchestra. You won’t want to miss this crowd-pleasing inspiring story performed by bright young actors, supported by a talented young crew!
