Chester County Single Mothers’ Conference Announced for Saturday, April 27

WEST CHESTER, PAThe Chester County Community Collaborative is proud to announce that the 7th Annual Chester County Single Mothers’ Conference will take place on Saturday, April 27, 2019 at Henderson High School in West Chester. Sponsored for a fourth consecutive year by Benchmark Federal Credit Union, all single mothers are invited to attend this free event devoted to encouraging, educating and empowering the more than 9,000 single moms in Chester County whose role is the main provider for the family.

“More than half of all of the women breadwinners in Chester County are single mothers, which can be a tremendous undertaking as they work to raise a thriving family on their own, ” says Benchmark Federal Credit Union Vice President of Marketing Rebecca Worthington. “At Benchmark, we serve many single mothers who have previously been judged by their credit score alone instead of their individual financial situations. We’re pleased to be offering insight at the conference on how to build credit and attain car loans and home mortgages.”

This year’s conference theme is Great Job, Mom! and features an all new Employment Fair highlighting more than 20 employers offering a sustainable living wage. Free childcare and lunch will be provided so single mothers can attend clinics that provide valuable insights regarding child custody, child support and personal finances. A Resource Fair with more than 50 exhibitors will provide information about dozens of subjects including nutrition, health, education, finance, wardrobe, resumes and more. Plus, the event provides networking with other single moms, and more opportunities than ever to be pampered with free manicures, hair consults and massages. The Chester County Single Mothers’ Conference will be promoted throughout March and April with videos on social media submitted by Chester County residents on why their mothers stand out. “There is no single definition of a single mother. We come from all socio-economic backgrounds but many of us share an initial discomfort with being labeled a single mother. That’s all overtaken by pride as we come together to overcome obstacles and raise strong, thriving children,” says Conference Co-Chair Matrie Johnson.

Once again this year, the Belinda Harrison Award will go to a single mother nominated by her peers who overcame adversity while working and remaining active in her community. Belinda R. Harrison was a single mother who worked tirelessly in Chester County’s social services and dedicated her life to empowering women and the under-served. Last year’s winner was 21-year-old Tierra White, of Coatesville, who worked two jobs while attending school full time to provide the best life for her daughter while volunteering at her school.
