KENNETT SQUARE, PA — The Kennett Symphony of Chester County has received a remarkable gift that promises to secure its future for generations. Dr. Timothy Vance Blair, a court-appointed administrator of the J.M. Blair Family Trust, announced the establishment of a perpetual annuity to benefit the Symphony, fulfilling his longstanding commitment to support cultural initiatives in the region.

Dr. Blair, a prominent figure in Chester County’s charitable landscape and the current Board President of the Kennett Symphony, expressed his dedication to the Symphony’s mission through this enduring contribution. “To culturally benefit in perpetuity the greater Kennett community and to encourage others to do the same,” he stated, reflecting his vision for continuous community enrichment.

Katherine Ball-Weir, the Development Chair of the Symphony Board, emphasized the transformative impact of this gift. “We are deeply grateful for this perpetual gift, which will ensure the continued growth and excellence of the Symphony. This lasting contribution supports our mission to bring exceptional music and cultural experiences to our community, and will resonate through every note we play for generations to come. The Symphony is honored Dr. Blair chose it to be a beneficiary of his family’s Trust.”

The Kennett Symphony of Chester County, founded in 1940, holds the distinction of being Chester County’s only fully professional symphony orchestra. Throughout its 84-year history, the Symphony has enriched the Brandywine Valley, captivating over 5,000 people each concert season with outstanding musical performances.

Dr. Blair’s illustrious career spans over 30 years in higher education, predominantly at West Chester University, where he served as dean in various capacities, including the School of Music, the College of Visual and Performing Arts, and the College of Arts and Humanities. A distinguished Steinway Artist, Dr. Blair also holds numerous prestigious positions, including Board President of both the Kennett Symphony and the Alexander & Buono Foundation of New York. Additionally, he contributes to the Grammy-award-winning Crossing Choir and serves as an educational partner for Steinway Asia Pacific.

The J.M. Blair Trust, established by John McConnell Blair, a 19th-century entrepreneur from Blairs Mills, PA, has a rich history of supporting diverse enterprises. The Trust, founded with stock from Tuscarora Bank, was brought to the Chester County Community Foundation in 2019 by Dr. Blair to celebrate its centennial anniversary.

This profound commitment underscores the importance of cultural preservation and community support. The Kennett Symphony invites the public to join in future concerts to experience the exceptional musical heritage that this gift ensures will continue to thrive.
