CHESTER SPRINGS, PA — SALT Performing Arts announced its new affiliation with Montgomery School in Chester Springs, PA starting with the Fall 2021 school year.
Since its inception in the Fall of 2019, SALT’s Playhouse for Preschoolers has had an exciting journey offering children a golden opportunity for educational and behavioral growth during their most formative years. With a foundation rooted in developing confidence and creativity, the Playhouse has run a successful program, even through the Pandemic, adapting to the circumstances and adjusting for safety guidelines. And now, they are embarking on an exciting and new chapter for the Playhouse!
“At SALT, we believe there is great power in partnerships between like-minded organizations. When a community joins forces, incredible magic can be created,” comments Lauren McComas, President and Artistic Director of SALT Performing Arts. “For the past several years, we have been fostering a relationship with Montgomery School located right down the road from our main theatre. Like SALT, Montgomery School believes in embracing and preserving childhood with the mindset that kids should be allowed to be kids. Right from the start, they encourage their students to think boldly, lead compassionately, and solve creatively.”
In the 2021-2022 school year, the SALT Playhouse will be partnering with Montgomery School to bring preschoolers all the aspects of the current Playhouse program that families have come to love but at a new location on Montgomery School’s beautiful campus that also houses students from Pre-K thru 8th grade.
“The SALT Playhouse is a perfect reflection of our mission to ignite each child’s love of learning and foster their individual talents during the most formative years in order to prepare them for future success,” said Tom McManus, Montgomery Head of School.
SALT is so excited for their Playhouse Preschoolers to now have the opportunity to also be a part of the Montgomery School community. They will still benefit from SALT’s enrichments in the performing arts while also receiving an academic program within Montgomery’s accredited early learning program. Students will also get to work in a garden, play on Montgomery’s playground, and go on many adventures around their vast campus. SALT Playhouse will be offering two, three, and five-day options from 8:30 AM – 12:30 PM each day. There will be a virtual Q&A session on February 24th at 7:00 PM. Email info@saltpa.com for a Zoom invite if interested in learning more. Complete information can be found here.
Kelly Kunsch will continue to serve as the Playhouse Director. Kelly has a Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education and Communications from Albright College and a Masters of Education from Penn State University. She previously taught kindergarten in Exeter Township School District and has worked as a behavioral aide in the preschool setting.
Ever since the shut-down in March, SALT has adapted to the pandemic restrictions and circumstances to keep their community connected and the arts alive. Despite the challenges through it all, SALT has kept the community connected through on and off line programming such as the online Valentine Singing Telegrams, Cooped Up Cabarets, Beyond the Walls outside drive-in concerts, an outdoor Good Ol Fashioned Variety Show, and an outside production of The Last Five Years, an indoor production of Nunsense with performers in plexiglass boxes, Rise UP, a 6 year anniversary fundraiser made available via live-streaming and A Christmas Spectacular via a video stream.
The mission of SALT Performing Arts is to provide live community theatre productions, Playhouses for Preschoolers, summer/year-round theatre camps for kids, dinner theatre, and more. With excellence as the standard, SALT, a non-profit organization, believes that the “community” is paramount in community theatre and strives to foster an all-inclusive atmosphere that promotes a positive, uplifting experience to each individual.
