PHILADELPHIA, PA — Quintessence Theatre is set to dazzle audiences with its XV Anniversary Season, marking 15 years of transformative theatre at the historic Sedgwick Theater in Northwest Philadelphia. With a blend of premieres, classics, and a world debut, this season promises to entertain and inspire.
Philadelphia Premiere: Cyrano de Bergerac
Kicking off the season is the Philadelphia Premiere of Martin Crimp’s “Cyrano de Bergerac” running from September 25 to October 20. This adaptation breathes new life into Edmond Rostand’s beloved tale, combining rapid-fire dialogue and poetic flair to tell the story of Cyrano, Roxane, and Christian in a wild and celebratory fashion.
Holiday Cheer: Kiss Me Kate
For the holiday season, Quintessence presents “Kiss Me Kate,” the timeless Cole Porter musical that first won a Tony Award for Best Musical. Running from November 27 to January 5, 2025, this family-friendly production is a loving ode to theatre itself, filled with catchy tunes and spectacular dance numbers.
Reckless Romance Repertory
The winter months bring the Reckless Romance repertory, featuring two Shakespearean classics. From February 27 to April 26, 2025, audiences can enjoy “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” and “Antony and Cleopatra” in rotating performances. “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” is a whimsical tale of love and magic, while “Antony and Cleopatra” explores passion and power in ancient Rome.
World Premiere: Giovanni’s Room
The season concludes with a groundbreaking world premiere. From May 28 to June 22, 2025, Quintessence will stage James Baldwin’s “Giovanni’s Room,” adapted by Benjamin Sprunger and Paul Oakley Stovall. This poignant story, set in 1950s Paris, delves into themes of identity, love, and societal norms, offering a powerful close to the season.

Quintessence offers a variety of subscription packages starting at $75, including a new Premium Seating Package and tiered discounts of up to 25%.
