PHOENIXVILLE, PA — The historic Colonial Theatre welcomes cinephiles to the 2nd Annual Phoenixville Film Festival, set to run from Thursday, September 19 to Sunday, September 22. This four-day event promises a celebration of independent cinema, featuring a diverse lineup of films and a range of engaging activities.
The festival’s schedule includes 50 films, with five world premieres and 32 Pennsylvania premieres, offering audiences an exhilarating mix of fresh and innovative cinematic experiences. The event opens on September 19 with a selection of short films and the Pennsylvania premiere of Breakup Season, starring Chandler Riggs of The Walking Dead fame.
“Hosting this festival for the second time is not just a testament to our passion for cinema, but a celebration of the independent voices that bring unique perspectives to the screen,” said Colonial Theatre Executive Director Jennifer Carlson. “It’s about creating a platform where creativity thrives and diverse stories find their audience. Independent films are the heartbeat of the industry, pushing boundaries and challenging conventions, and this festival is our way of honoring their invaluable contribution to the art of storytelling.”
September 20 features a series of compelling short films and documentaries, including the world premiere of Climbing Into Life. Directed by Pennsylvania filmmaker Melissa Davey, the documentary chronicles Dierdre Wolownick, the oldest woman to ascend El Capitan in Yosemite, mentored by her son, Alex Honnold, known from the Oscar-winning documentary Free Solo.
“This year’s festival will enrich our community with diverse and captivating stories,” says Phoenixville Film Festival Executive Director Kyle Thompson. “Phoenixville’s art scene is remarkable, and we are excited to highlight filmmaking and screenwriting as an essential part of our cultural tapestry.”
Other noteworthy events include the Pennsylvania premiere of Scrap on September 21, featuring Anthony Rapp, known for his role in the original Broadway musical RENT. The festival will conclude with an awards ceremony on September 22, celebrating the outstanding achievements of filmmakers and screenwriters.
