WEST BRANDYWINE, PA — The spotlight shone brightly on the Village Players of Freedom Village at Brandywine as they premiered their fourth musical, “Oh! Horrors, It’s Murder.” This resident-led troupe has once again demonstrated the vibrant and creative spirit that thrives within the senior living community.

Led by directors and producers Fran Doyle and Maggie Doyle, the Village Players offer a unique opportunity for Freedom Village residents to step outside their comfort zones and onto the stage. Regardless of prior acting experience, all who join the troupe find joy and camaraderie in the process.

Maggie Doyle shared her enthusiasm for the project, stating “We always tell the residents who participate that the purpose is to have fun, but in having fun, it is also a healthy exercise. It improves your mind by memorizing, your body by moving, and your lungs by singing.”

“Oh! Horrors, It’s Murder” is a comedy that ran over a weekend, with matinee performances on both Friday and Saturday. Each show lasts approximately one and a half to two hours, including an intermission. The performances were met with rousing applause from packed audiences comprising residents, staff, friends, and family.

In keeping with the community spirit, the Village Players do not charge for tickets but accept donations. The proceeds are divided equally between the Freedom Village Scholarship Fund and the Freedom Village Outreach Fund, both of which are strongly supported by the troupe. This latest performance raised an impressive $4,600, which will be allocated to these worthy causes.

Danielle Geyer, Executive Director of Freedom Village at Brandywine, expresses her admiration for the troupe. “We are proud to have Fran and Maggie as residents here at Freedom Village. With these musicals, Fran and Maggie are able to support an amazing cause while doing something they love,” she said. “We are always impressed with them and the other residents who dedicate themselves and their time to putting on the best performance they can.”
