MEDIA, PA — Delaware County Community College‘s Theatre Department is set to captivate audiences with its latest production, “Airness,” a dynamic and humorous play by Chelsea Marcantel. Scheduled to be performed at the College’s Marple Campus from November 20 to 23, this engaging theatrical experience will take place in the Large Auditorium of the Academic Building at 7 p.m. each evening.
“Airness” explores the unconventional world of air guitar competitions through the eyes of Nina, a newcomer who initially believes victory will be straightforward. However, as she becomes part of a lively community of air guitar enthusiasts, Nina learns that this art form transcends mere mimicry. It becomes a journey of self-discovery, expression, and pure exhilaration, set to the backdrop of iconic tracks from the ’70s and ’80s such as Guns N’ Roses’ “Sweet Child O’ Mine,” Billy Idol’s “Rebel Yell,” and Boston’s “More Than a Feeling.”
Directed by Stephen Patrick Smith, a distinguished professor of Drama at DCCC and a recipient of the Barrymore Award, the production boasts a talented student ensemble. The cast features Sam Briggs, Joe Matthews, Kayla Frantz, Gillian Keener, Kevin Lara, Javier Villagomez, David Scanlan, Sean Summerfield, and Ikesseh Zarweh, who collectively bring Marcantel’s vibrant script to life.
Tickets for the performance are priced at $15 for general admission and $10 for students with a valid ID. This play contains mature language and content, and viewer discretion is advised.
Delaware County Community College remains committed to delivering a comprehensive theatre education, as evidenced by its Theatre Arts certificate program and Associate in Arts/Communication Arts with a Theatre option. Through “Airness,” the College continues to offer thought-provoking and spirited productions that enrich both its students and the community.
