MEDIA, PA — The timeless musical “Into the Woods,” written by James Lapine with music by Stephen Sondheim, is coming to Delaware County Community College (DCCC) this spring. Known for its unforgettable characters and Tony Award-winning score, the production will be performed on the College’s Marple Campus from April 9 through April 12, starting at 7 p.m. each evening in the Large Auditorium of the Academic Building.
This modern classic intertwines familiar fairy tales, weaving together the journeys of Cinderella, Little Red Riding Hood, Jack and the Beanstalk, Rapunzel, and more. At its heart, the story follows a childless baker and his wife, tasked by a witch with acquiring magical items to lift a family curse. Originally taking Broadway by storm and later adapted into a 2014 film, “Into the Woods” has captivated audiences worldwide with iconic songs such as “No One is Alone” and “Children Will Listen.”
The DCCC production is directed by Ali Caiazzo, with Kennedy McAlister serving as music director, and features a talented student cast. Performers include JJ Trainor, Joseph Matthews, Olivia Blevins, Isabella Vázquez-Janik, Brelynn Shefsky, Kate Higgins Sapsis, Julia Phan, Jo Hughes, Danielle Lachall, Kayla Frantz, Maleeka Lawrence, Sam Briggs, Gillian Keener, Tah’Mir Lamb, Isaias Yovel Acosta, Kelly Lovica David, Rincon Thompson, and Caleb Marker.
Tickets are $15 for general admission and $10 for students with a valid school ID. Seating is limited, and tickets can be purchased through the school’s website.
This production is a showcase of DCCC’s Theatre Department, which offers both a Theatre Arts certificate and an Associate in Arts/Communication Arts degree with a Theatre option. The department is dedicated to providing students with a comprehensive education in theatre, coupled with opportunities to present engaging, high-quality performances that enrich the community.
