ARLINGTON, VA — Peter Kennedy, a standout student from B. Reed Henderson High School in West Chester, PA, has been selected as one of only 20 participants nationwide for the highly coveted 2025 Bill of Rights Institute (BRI) Student Fellowship. This rigorous six-month program will culminate in an enriching capstone trip to Washington, D.C., offering an unparalleled opportunity for Kennedy to engage with civic education at the highest level.

The Bill of Rights Institute, a nonpartisan nonprofit organization devoted to advancing civic and historical knowledge, carefully selects students through a competitive process. This year’s fellows, hailing from 15 states and various educational backgrounds, were chosen based on academic nominations and their essays on leadership and citizenship.

Throughout the program, Kennedy and his peers will participate in extensive collaborative learning experiences designed to foster civic leadership. Highlights include opportunities to study the principles of a free and just society, meet with members of Congress, visit significant historical sites, and possibly publish their work in prominent outlets.

“At the Bill of Rights Institute, we teach history and civics and equip students to live the ideals of a free and just society,” said David J. Bobb, Ph.D., President and CEO of BRI. “Our Student Fellowship Program enables some of our brightest young people to grow as informed citizens and civic leaders. Through collaborative learning and civil discourse, they develop the skills needed to strengthen their communities and our nation.”

Kennedy will join an exceptional group of students, many of whom have gone on to launch impactful civic initiatives in their own communities. Rachel Davison Humphries, Senior Director of Civic Learning Initiatives at BRI, looks forward to the year ahead. “Our Student Fellows prove each year that we can come from different backgrounds or hold different beliefs, but we can all come together, learn from each other, and engage around key founding principles, like liberty, justice, and equality,” she stated.

The fellowship represents a significant achievement for Kennedy and an exciting chance to contribute to the ongoing dialogue around American civic values. The capstone trip to Washington, D.C., promises an inspiring culmination to a once-in-a-lifetime educational experience.
