WEST CHESTER, PA — The West Chester Area School District (WCASD) has been recognized by the College Board for its Advanced Placement (AP) programs, with all three district high schools earning spots on the 2024 AP School Honor Roll. East High School received the Silver distinction, while Henderson and Rustin High Schools were awarded Bronze.
This achievement highlights the district’s dedication to providing students with college-level learning opportunities while maintaining strong results. The AP School Honor Roll celebrates schools that expand access to AP courses and exams while ensuring students achieve success in these rigorous programs.
At each of the three high schools, more than 60% of seniors have taken at least one AP exam during their time in school. Students at WCASD can choose from 28 AP courses in a variety of subjects, supported by over 55 sections taught by highly skilled educators. These courses help students explore their interests, prepare for college, and build lifelong skills.
“The impressive participation in AP courses and exams across the district reflects a shared commitment to empowering students with the tools they need to excel,” said Dr. Stephen Brown, WCASD’s Director of Teaching, Learning, and Equity. “Whether preparing for college-level academics or building durable skills, WCASD students are rising to the challenge and making their families, teachers, and communities proud.”
The College Board’s Advanced Placement Program allows high school students to engage in college-level coursework and exams. Successfully completing AP courses can earn students college credit or advanced placement at universities, while also strengthening critical thinking, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
“AP gives students opportunity to engage with college-level work, to earn college credit and placement, and to potentially boost their grade point averages,” explained Trevor Packer, head of the AP program at College Board. He emphasized the honor roll as a testament to schools’ ability to expand access to these courses while maintaining strong performance.
For WCASD students, these programs and their achievements pave the way for greater college readiness and future success. The recognition reinforces the district’s focus on academic excellence and supporting students to reach their full potential.
