WEST CHESTER, PA — The West Chester Area School District (WCASD) has been honored with the 2025 Gold Award of Excellence in School Facilities by the Pennsylvania Association of School Business Officials (PASBO). This annual distinction recognizes exceptional achievement in facilities operations and management, underscoring WCASD’s commitment to creating safe and sustainable learning environments.
WCASD’s selection for the Gold Award highlights its compliance with seven key benchmarks, including facilities maintenance, capital improvement, grounds management, housekeeping, staff management, environmental safety, and data-driven benchmarking. The award, jointly sponsored by PASBO and Brightly, reflects adherence to best practices that benefit schools and communities.
“PASBO Awards of Excellence recipients have demonstrated adherence to best practices that result in exceptional school business operations programs benefitting schools, students, and communities,” said PASBO Executive Director Hannah Barrick.
Wayne Birster, WCASD’s Director of Facilities and Operations, credited the recognition to the district’s team. “This recognition is a reflection of our team’s commitment to providing students and staff with clean, safe, and efficient spaces to learn and grow every single day,” Birster said. “We’re honored to be recognized for the hard work and good practices we have in place and will continue to strive for excellence.”
The award further affirms WCASD’s dedication to fostering environments where students and educators can thrive, setting a new standard for operational excellence in Pennsylvania schools.
