WEST CHESTER, PA — West Chester Area School District (WCASD) this week announced the addition of Mrs. Abigail Dougherty as the new Assistant Principal and 11th Grade Administrator at East High School. Dougherty has quickly become a valuable asset to the school’s administrative team, making a positive impact on students and staff alike.
WCASD’s Interim Assistant Superintendent, Dr. Cheryl Newton-Woods, praised Dougherty’s leadership, stating, “Mrs. Dougherty acts as a positive leader for both students and staff. She brings a unique perspective to our district and a sincere understanding of our mission to help students achieve their personal best.”
Prior to joining WCASD, Dougherty worked in The School District of York teaching English to grades 10 through 12. Following this, she served as a Tiered Support Team Leader in The School District of Lancaster before becoming an assistant principal within the Harrisburg School District.
Dougherty holds a Master of English from Southern New Hampshire University, a Master of Education in Urban School Leadership with her Pennsylvania Administrative Certification from Temple University, and a Master of Education in Multicultural Education from Eastern University. Her passion for equity and empowering students has been a driving force throughout her career.
Speaking about her experience at East High School, Dougherty said, “I appreciate seeing how our students challenge themselves and the world around them – that’s how learning should be, a challenge that pushes us to grow and connect more deeply.”
She also expressed her excitement about overseeing East’s Innovative Teaching Team, saying, “I’ve been so impressed with the new opportunities and initiatives we’ve developed to engage with students. East has a great environment, and I’m looking forward to continuing to help our school and community grow.”
The West Chester Area School District extended a warm welcome to Mrs. Abigail Dougherty and thanked her for the significant contributions she has made since the beginning of the school year.
