DOWNINGTOWN, PA — Unionville High School’s academic team, fresh off their county victory in March, is gearing up to represent Chester County at the Pennsylvania State Academic Competition on Friday, May 2, 2025. The prestigious event will take place at the Pennsylvania State Capitol in Harrisburg.

Unionville will join approximately 20 teams, including defending state champion West Chester East High School, in the intellectual showdown. Organized by the Chester County Intermediate Unit (CCIU) and supported by Representative John Lawrence (R-Chester County), this annual competition celebrates excellence and teamwork.

“Qualifying to compete in the Pennsylvania State Academic Competition takes an incredible amount of dedication, teamwork, and discipline,” said Jay Della Ragione, special events coordinator for the CCIU. “It’s a proud moment for Chester County to have both Unionville High School and West Chester East High School representing us at the state competition.”

Established in 1992 with support from Representative Joseph Pitts, the event emphasizes academic achievement and lifelong learning. The winning team will earn a $2,000 scholarship for their school, while second and third place finishers will receive $500 each.

The Pennsylvania State Academic Competition encourages students to excel beyond the classroom, combining academic, social, and personal growth through teamwork. With Chester County fielding two strong teams, expectations are high for another display of talent and dedication on the state stage.
