POTTSTOWN, PA — Owen J. Roberts (OJR) High School announced that senior Eliana Crew is the valedictorian of the graduating class of 2023 and that Cate Bicalho is this year’s salutatorian. The announcement is the latest in a series of milestone moments both students have enjoyed during the 2022-2023 school year.
This past October, Crew was one of five OJR High School seniors named as Commended Students in the 68th annual National Merit Scholarship Program. As part of the distinction, Crew placed among the top five percent of 1.5 million students who entered the 2023 Merit Program. In addition, she was part of a student-led team that earned the top award of the international iWISH competition after creating a video to highlight the importance of early STEM education for girls and young women. After graduation Crew plans to attend University of Pittsburgh and major in engineering.
Bicalho was previously named a Semifinalist for the 2023 class of the Coca-Cola Scholars Program. She was selected based on her academic excellence, leadership and service demonstrated in school and community activities. Bicalho was one of only 1,557 high school seniors selected as semifinalists for the $20,000 scholarship, from a pool of more than 91,000 submitted applications from across the country. She plans to attend Carnegie Mellon University starting in the fall and major in business administration and computer science.
OJR High School’s graduating class of 2023 includes 425 students. This year’s graduation ceremony will take place on Friday, June 9, beginning at 6:30 p.m.
