MALVERN, PA — Tess Lutz, a dedicated English teacher at Great Valley High School (GVHS), has been named one of 20 recipients of the Delaware Valley Excellence in Teaching Awards by the Franklin Mint Federal Credit Union (FMFCU) Foundation. The recognition celebrates outstanding educators across the Philadelphia region.

With 13 years of service in the Great Valley School District, including a decade at the high school level, Lutz has positively impacted students both academically and personally. She teaches ninth-grade English, coaches the JV girls soccer team, and co-advises the student council.

“One of my favorite things about working with my students is being able to watch them grow when they leave my classroom,” Lutz said of her role. “I get to learn more about them and see them develop as individuals throughout their high school experience.”

Lutz was honored during a March meeting of the Great Valley School Board, where GVHS Principal Dr. Heidi Capetola commended her tireless contributions. “Tess’s hard work, commitment, and leadership influence our high school in countless positive ways and have made our school community a better, more inclusive place,” Capetola remarked.

Each award winner received a $1,000 grant from the FMFCU Foundation. Lutz plans to use the funds to support the GVHS Cultural Celebration, a schoolwide event she helps organize, scheduled for April 4. “What makes this recognition truly special is that our students benefit from it as well,” she said.

The FMFCU Foundation will celebrate the awardees at an event later this month, highlighting the dedication of educators like Lutz to fostering growth and excellence in the classroom.
