DOWNINGTOWN, PA — The Best Buddies Clubs of Downingtown East and West High Schools organized the annual Eastern Pennsylvania High School Buddy Ball on March 15, creating an evening of friendship, connection, and celebration for students of all abilities. Hosted at Downingtown High School East, the event attracted 400 students across 17 high schools in the region, all coming together for an unforgettable night.
The Buddy Ball featured a garden party theme, complete with a buffet dinner, dancing, a photo booth, and activities aimed at ensuring accessibility and enjoyment for all participants. Designed to emulate a prom-like experience, the event underscored the mission of Best Buddies, a global organization dedicated to fostering one-to-one friendships and leadership opportunities for individuals with and without intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD).
“Best Buddies has helped foster a culture of friendship and belonging in our schools,” said Amy Rowe, Best Buddies Co-Advisor. “Seeing our students come together to celebrate meaningful connections at the Buddy Ball is truly inspiring.”
The event continues to be a centerpiece for the organization’s efforts in fostering inclusivity, joy, and respect across schools. The commitment of the Downingtown Area School District to these principles is evident in its support of the Buddy Ball and its broader initiatives to create environments where all students feel valued and connected.
Through gatherings like the Buddy Ball, Best Buddies advances its mission by ensuring that every student has the opportunity to experience meaningful friendships and a strong sense of belonging.
