DOWNINGTOWN, PA — Tony Award-winning actor and singer Leslie Odom, Jr. delivered an empowering virtual workshop to students in the Downingtown Area School District (DASD) as part of an event hosted by the district’s Student Relations and School Climate (SRSC) department. The session focused on the themes of resilience, goal-setting, and staying committed to one’s passions.
Odom, Jr., best known for his groundbreaking role as Aaron Burr in the Broadway hit Hamilton, shared his personal journey of overcoming obstacles through determination and focus. Addressing the challenges of pursuing dreams, he encouraged students to think big and persevere. “Your intention has to become bigger than your obstacles. That is the best medicine for focus. Have a big intention for your focus,” he told students.
The workshop also included an interactive Q&A segment, where students posed questions and received practical advice from Odom, Jr. The intimate session gave students a chance to connect with the performer on a personal level, gaining insights into turning aspirations into reality.
Justin Brown, DASD’s Director of Student Relations and School Climate, remarked on the significance of the event, saying, “I believe Leslie Odom, Jr.’s message was a powerful reminder that resilience, focus, and passion are the keys to turning dreams into reality. His words not only inspired our students to set ambitious goals, but also gave them the tools to stay committed despite challenges. We are grateful for the opportunity to bring such an impactful experience to DASD students.”
Through events like this, DASD continues to provide students with unique opportunities to learn from influential figures, equipping them with skills and inspiration to achieve success. Initiatives of this kind aim to foster a culture of resilience and ambition, empowering young minds to envision and pursue their brightest futures.
