DOWNINGTOWN, PA — Will Howard, Ohio State’s National Championship-winning quarterback, made a celebrated return to his hometown with a special visit to Shamona Creek Elementary School on Tuesday. The Downingtown alumnus was greeted with cheers and high-fives, marking a full-circle moment as he reconnected with the school where his athletic journey began.
The celebration began with a police escort to Shamona Creek Elementary, where students and staff eagerly awaited the chance to honor one of their own. The school had shown its support prior to the championship game by creating a heartfelt video filled with good wishes from teachers, students, and staff. That video served as a reminder of the strong community ties that have supported Howard throughout his career.
“Thank you to everyone here in Downingtown who supported me all throughout the playoffs and all throughout my entire career,” Howard said in a video message. “I have so much love for this town.”
Howard’s path to victory was forged in large part during his time at Downingtown High School West, where he served as a four-year varsity quarterback. He led DHSW to the 2019 PIAA District 1 Championship and a berth in the Eastern Pennsylvania Final, earning recognition as the 2019 Maxwell Football Club Pennsylvania Player of the Year and the recipient of the Maxwell Football Jim Henry National Award. Howard was also named DHSW’s 2020 Outstanding Male Athlete and achieved 1,000 career points in basketball, showcasing his multi-sport talent.
The homecoming celebration at Shamona Creek Elementary underscored the impact Howard’s achievements have had on his hometown. His success at Ohio State, capped by his leadership in securing the National Championship, echoes the dedication and talent first cultivated in Downingtown. The event served as an inspiring reminder of the support and pride shared by the Downingtown Area School District for its students and alumni.
