DOWNINGTOWN, PA — Hundreds of students from the Downingtown Area School District (DASD) and surrounding schools gathered for the annual Cam-A-Thon, raising an impressive $45,766.41 for Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation, a nonprofit dedicated to combating childhood cancer.

The 12-hour overnight event, held from 7 p.m. on Friday, April 4, to 7 a.m. on Saturday, April 5, filled the night with activities including dancing, sports tournaments, Zumba, games, and guest speakers. Cam-A-Thon honors the memory of Cameron Evans, a former DASD student who passed away from leukemia in 2011.

Cameron’s friends initially launched the Cure4Cam campaign during his treatment, creating cards and bracelets to show their support. Following his passing, the Cure4Cam Foundation was established to carry on his legacy. Today, fundraising efforts benefit Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation, which supports pediatric cancer research and family aid programs.

“This event is more than just a fundraiser—it’s a celebration of hope, unity, and making a difference,” said Allyson Flynn, a student organizer from the Downingtown STEM Academy.

Cam-A-Thon was spearheaded by students from Downingtown STEM Academy and Downingtown High School West, in collaboration with Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation.

“This event exemplifies the power of student leadership and community engagement,” said Justin Brown, DASD Director of Student Relations and School Climate. “Cam-A-Thon aligns with our district’s strategic goal of ensuring students feel safe, connected, and engaged by fostering a sense of purpose and togetherness in support of an important cause.”

By coming together, the students paid tribute to Cameron’s enduring legacy while making a meaningful impact in the fight against childhood cancer.
