DOWNINGTOWN, PA — Downingtown Middle School recently hosted a community-focused event as part of its Making Connections program, an initiative designed to build stronger relationships between students and local law enforcement while promoting trust and mutual respect.

The event brought together students and officers from local police departments for an open discussion. Corporal Kelly MacIntyre of the Pennsylvania State Police and Lieutenant Ken Michels of the West Brandywine Police Department shared insights into their roles, emphasizing the importance of online safety and personal responsibility. The program, organized in collaboration with the Downingtown Area School District’s (DASD) Office of Student Relations and School Climate (SRSC), encouraged dialogue by giving students a platform to ask questions and share perspectives.

“It’s important for students and law enforcement to come together to strengthen our community,” said Justin Brown, DASD Director of SRSC. “These conversations are essential to our mission of creating a sense of belonging for all students. We’re proud of everyone who took part and are grateful for their dedication to building stronger relationships.”

The Making Connections program, which is central to DASD’s efforts to foster trust and understanding, plays a pivotal role in encouraging ongoing collaboration between students and law enforcement.

“I hope students and community members continue working together to create an environment of kindness and understanding,” Brown added. “These conversations lay the groundwork for a more connected and informed community.”

The event underscores DASD’s broader commitment to using education and engagement as a means of strengthening community ties.
