WEST GROVE, PA — The Avon Grove School District (AGSD) Board of Directors announced plans to appoint Dr. Scott DeShong as the next superintendent of schools during a special meeting on April 15, 2024. Dr. DeShong, currently serving as AGSD’s assistant superintendent, is set to step into the role on May 1, 2025.

Dr. DeShong, a district resident, has been an instrumental leader within AGSD since 2022. His accomplishments include spearheading the middle school’s transition to a 6-8 grade configuration, introducing the Early Learning Lab at Avon Grove High School, and aligning district initiatives with the Profile of a Future Ready Avon Grove Graduate. He also played a pivotal role as principal of Avon Grove High School, where he led the development of the district’s new high school facility and expanded Advanced Placement offerings.

“I am deeply honored to be selected as the next superintendent of the Avon Grove School District,” said DeShong. “Our shared commitment to communication, collaboration, and community will be the foundation of our work.”

The superintendent search process, conducted by the Chester County Intermediate Unit, drew over 40 applications from across 16 states. Input from focus groups and over 230 community survey responses helped shape stakeholder priorities for the position. After rigorous interviews and reference checks, the Board confidently selected DeShong as their leader of choice.

Dr. Dorothy Linn, AGSD Board President, remarked, “On behalf of the Avon Grove School Board, we are thrilled to welcome Dr. DeShong as superintendent of Avon Grove School District. Under his astute guidance, the school district will thrive, grow, and provide many opportunities for our students, staff, families, and community.”
